Acquisition and File Format Requirements for Color Fusion MRI Case Studies
For a digitally recorded MRI case study to be processed for Color Fusion MRI, the study must include several pulse sequences of the same slice orientation with matching slice positions and conform to current DICOM 3 format.

With prior consultation, data files on CD ROM may be mailed to Dr. H. Keith Brown.

Acquisition Requirements
Acquisition is important so that images can be in register automatically and so slice positions match as close as possible.

  • Must have no patient position change between series scans
  • Must have:
    • matching slice position
    • same field of view (FOV)
    • zoom factor
    • same matrix 256 x 256
  • Must have at least 2 series of same orientation (3 to 4 preferred)
Example MRI Protocols
Brain Brain with Contrast
Sagittal T1 Sagittal T1
Axial T1 Axial T1
Axial T2 Axial T2
Axial Flair Axial Flair
Axial T1 w/magtransfer (post gado)
Coronal T1 (post gado)
Sagittal T1 post gado (IF +for tumor)
In this example:
Brain: axial T1, T2, and flair would be used for colorization
Brain with contrast: axial T1, T2, flair, and T1 post gado would be used for colorization
File Format Requirements
Our software requires industry standard DICOM 3 file format.

  • Case study must be in DICOM 3 format
  • Images must have .dcm file extension
For example: img0001.dcm
  • Case study file directories and subdirectories must be in this format:
  Case_Name (directory)
  series 1 (subdirectory)
  img001.dcm (single image file)
  img002.dcm
  etc.
  series 2 (subdirectory)
  img001.dcm
  img002.dcm
  etc.
  series 3 (subdirectory)
  series 4 (subdirectory)
